Selecting Fiber Laser Cutting Power

Match laser power, material, thickness, cutting table and production speed to the project.

The short answer

Select a fiber laser package using the material and thickness mix you actually cut, your sheet format and the required edge quality. Ask for application-specific evidence before treating laser power as a measure of finished production output.

IXORTA prepares project-specific equipment configurations and export quotations from Türkiye. Use the checklist below to define your requirements; final specifications and scope belong in the written offer.

Prepare your enquiry

  • Material grades and thickness mix
  • Sheet size and sample part drawings
  • Required edge quality and acceptance method

Send the machine type, required capacity, destination country or port, project timeline and technical requirements.

Fiber Laser Power vs. Sheet Thickness Engineering Matrix

Selecting fiber laser power (fiber lazer kesim makinası / آلة قطع المعادن بالليزر فايber / دستگاه برش لیزر فلزات) requires matching laser generator output (kW) to production material thickness, assist gas costs, and required feed rates ($m/\text{min}$).

Table 1: IXORTA Industrial Fiber Laser Power vs. Max Thickness & Cutting Speeds
Laser Source Power Carbon Steel ($O_2$ / $N_2$) Stainless Steel ($N_2$) Aluminum Alloy ($N_2$/Air) Typical Cutting Speed ($m/\text{min}$)
1.5 kW Fiber Max $14\text{ mm}$ (opt. $1-8\text{ mm}$) Max $6\text{ mm}$ (opt. $1-4\text{ mm}$) Max $4\text{ mm}$ (opt. $1-3\text{ mm}$) $1\text{mm CS: } 22\text{ m/min}$ | $3\text{mm CS: } 4.5\text{ m/min}$
3.0 kW Fiber Max $20\text{ mm}$ (opt. $1-12\text{ mm}$) Max $10\text{ mm}$ (opt. $1-8\text{ mm}$) Max $8\text{ mm}$ (opt. $1-6\text{ mm}$) $1\text{mm CS: } 38\text{ m/min}$ | $6\text{mm CS: } 2.4\text{ m/min}$
6.0 kW Fiber Max $25\text{ mm}$ (opt. $2-16\text{ mm}$) Max $16\text{ mm}$ (opt. $2-12\text{ mm}$) Max $14\text{ mm}$ (opt. $2-10\text{ mm}$) $2\text{mm SS: } 26\text{ m/min}$ | $10\text{mm CS: } 2.8\text{ m/min}$
12.0 kW Ultra-Power Max $40\text{ mm}$ (opt. $3-25\text{ mm}$) Max $30\text{ mm}$ (opt. $3-20\text{ mm}$) Max $25\text{ mm}$ (opt. $3-18\text{ mm}$) $3\text{mm SS: } 35\text{ m/min}$ | $20\text{mm CS: } 1.8\text{ m/min}$
20.0 kW Heavy Industrial Max $60\text{ mm}$ (opt. $6-40\text{ mm}$) Max $50\text{ mm}$ (opt. $6-35\text{ mm}$) Max $45\text{ mm}$ (opt. $6-30\text{ mm}$) $5\text{mm SS: } 30\text{ m/min}$ | $30\text{mm CS: } 1.4\text{ m/min}$

Assist Gas Dynamics: Oxygen ($O_2$), Nitrogen ($N_2$) vs. High-Pressure Air

Assist gas selection directly influences hourly operating cost and weld-readiness of the cut edge:

Nitrogen ($N_2$) High-Pressure Cutting (16–28 bar)

Inert gas vaporizes molten metal without chemical reaction, leaving a bright, 100% oxide-free edge ready for immediate robotic welding or powder coating without secondary grinding. Ideal for stainless steel, food-grade equipment, and aluminum chassis.

Oxygen ($O_2$) Exothermic Cutting (0.5–2.5 bar)

Oxygen burns iron exothermically, allowing high-thickness carbon steel penetration with minimal laser wattage. Leaves a microscopic oxide layer that can be removed with light wire brush or pickling if painting.

Machine Bed Mechanical Structure & CNC Software

High laser power is ineffective without a dynamic, vibration-dampened gantry system:

  • Annealed Plate-Welded Machine Bed: Heavy steel plate structure subjected to $600^\circ\text{C}$ stress-relieving annealing in an industrial furnace, followed by rough and finish milling on a 12-meter gantry CNC center to ensure 20+ years without structural deformation.
  • Cast Aviation Aluminum Crossbeam: Lightweight monoblock beam achieves $1.2\text{G} - 1.5\text{G}$ rapid acceleration rates with zero flexure during directional micro-cornering.
  • Autofocus Cutting Head with Collision Avoidance: Capacitive height tracking maintains micron-level nozzle-to-sheet standoff, with automatic obstacle hopping and lens thermal monitoring.
  • CypCut / FSCUT CNC Bus Control: Includes fly-cutting, frog-jump positioning, lead-in optimization, micro-joint retention, and intelligent automatic nesting that saves up to 12% in sheet metal waste.

Dual Shuttle Exchange Pallet Tables & Safety Enclosures

Production throughput depends on uninterrupted cutting time:

Table 2: Standard IXORTA Fiber Laser Cutting Bed Formats
Model Format Sheet Dimensions Pallet Exchange Time Positioning / Repetition Accuracy
IX-FL-3015 $3000 \times 1500\text{ mm}$ ($10\text{ft} \times 5\text{ft}$) 12 – 15 seconds $\pm 0.03\text{ mm}$ / $\pm 0.02\text{ mm}$
IX-FL-4020 $4000 \times 2000\text{ mm}$ ($13\text{ft} \times 6.5\text{ft}$) 15 – 18 seconds $\pm 0.03\text{ mm}$ / $\pm 0.02\text{ mm}$
IX-FL-6025 $6000 \times 2500\text{ mm}$ ($20\text{ft} \times 8.2\text{ft}$) 20 – 25 seconds $\pm 0.04\text{ mm}$ / $\pm 0.02\text{ mm}$
