Choosing Tillage Equipment
Understand rotary tillers, disc ploughs and cultivators for different soil preparation tasks.
The short answer
Choose tillage equipment for the intended field operation and the tractor available to perform it. Describe soil conditions, residue, working depth and width, then ask the supplier to explain the proposed implement and its operating requirements.
IXORTA prepares project-specific equipment configurations and export quotations from Türkiye. Use the checklist below to define your requirements; final specifications and scope belong in the written offer.
Prepare your enquiry
- Operation and local field conditions
- Soil, crop residues and intended working depth
- Tractor specifications and attachment details
Send the machine type, required capacity, destination country or port, project timeline and technical requirements.
Technical quotationPrimary vs. Secondary Tillage Engineering Principles
Selecting agricultural tillage equipment (toprak işleme makineleri / معدات تحضير التربة والحرث / ادوات خاکورزی و شخم) depends on soil texture, compaction depth, residue volume, and moisture preservation goals.
| Tillage Machine Type | Primary Agronomic Function | Working Depth | Residue Management & Soil Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reversible Moldboard Plow | Deep soil inversion & burial | $250 - 380\text{ mm}$ | Complete burial of crop residue, weed seeds, and pest pupae; aerates subsoil |
| Deep Subsoiler (Chisel) | Hardpan shattering without inversion | $450 - 600\text{ mm}$ | Breaks plow sole compaction; restores deep root water infiltration |
| Heavy Offset Disc Harrow | Stubble cutting & clod crushing | $120 - 220\text{ mm}$ | Mixes chopped straw with topsoil; creates moisture-retaining mulch |
| Rotary Tiller (Rotavator) | Intensive seedbed pulverization | $150 - 250\text{ mm}$ | Refines clods in a single pass; ideal for vegetable and orchard beds |
| Spring Tine Cultivator | Secondary leveling & weed eradication | $80 - 150\text{ mm}$ | Levels surface, preserves capillary moisture, prepares uniform seedbed |
Metallurgy & Wear Resistance: Boron Steel & Carbide Tips
Abrasive soils (sandy loam, quartz content, rocky riverbeds) cause rapid wear on ground-engaging tools. IXORTA manufactures all plowshares, chisel points, and harrow discs from specialized European-certified steels:
- Heat-Treated Boron Steel ($30MnB5$): Hardened in controlled atmosphere furnaces to $48 - 52\text{ HRC}$, providing $2.8\times$ longer operational life than standard carbon steel ($65Mn$).
- Tungsten Carbide Hardfacing: Optional plasma-welded tungsten carbide tile overlays on high-wear share points and landside heels, extending replacement intervals beyond 800 hectares in heavy soil.
- Hardened Disc Blades: Spherical notched and smooth disc blades ($\varnothing 560\text{ mm} - \varnothing 660\text{ mm}$, thickness $5 - 6\text{ mm}$) forged with conical self-sharpening bevels and maintenance-free oil bath sealed hub bearings.
Stone Protection: Shear Bolt vs. Hydro-Pneumatic Non-Stop Reset
In stony fields, striking submerged boulders can bend machine frames or crack tractor hitch arms:
Shear Bolt Overload System (Economical)
A calibrated shear bolt shears off cleanly when point resistance exceeds $3,500\text{ kg}$, allowing the shank to pivot back. Replaced in 2 minutes with a new standard bolt; ideal for mostly stone-free soils.
Hydro-Pneumatic Non-Stop Reset (Heavy Rocky Land)
Pressurized nitrogen accumulator allows the plow leg to lift automatically over obstacles up to $35\text{ cm}$ high and immediately return to the set working depth without stopping the tractor.
Fuel Efficiency & Working Speed Benchmarks
Calibrating moldboard angle and coulter alignment significantly impacts diesel consumption:
| Operation | Optimal Speed ($km/h$) | Field Capacity ($ha/h$ per meter width) | Average Fuel ($l/ha$) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plowing (4-bottom) | $6.0 - 8.5\text{ km/h}$ | $0.75 - 1.10\text{ ha/h}$ | $14 - 22\text{ l/ha}$ |
| Subsoiling (5-shank) | $4.5 - 6.5\text{ km/h}$ | $0.90 - 1.40\text{ ha/h}$ | $18 - 26\text{ l/ha}$ |
| Disc Harrowing | $9.0 - 12.0\text{ km/h}$ | $1.80 - 2.80\text{ ha/h}$ | $6 - 9\text{ l/ha}$ |
| Rotary Tillage | $3.0 - 5.0\text{ km/h}$ | $0.55 - 0.95\text{ ha/h}$ | $12 - 16\text{ l/ha}$ |
Data Needed for a Tailored Tillage Equipment Offer
- Tractor power (HP / kW) and hitch category (Cat II or Cat III)
- Primary soil description (clay content, stones, hardpan, humidity)
- Target working depth ($cm$) and preferred implement width ($m$)
- Stone trip protection preference (shear bolt vs. hydro-pneumatic non-stop)
- Order type (single unit or distributor container load) and destination seaport / border point
